Today I had students turn in a chart that had:
Pg. text thinking helps me understand
The first thing that jumps out to me is that many students just do one type of thinking on the sheet. So either they always write questions, or they always draw a mind picture. I wonder if that would change as we go through each of the strategies?
The second thing I notice is that my stronger readers use more than one reading strategy, and usually it something like a connection, prediction or an inference.
So this leads me to think, there are levels to thinking about a text, kind of like blooms taxonomy, right?
So there's the first level which is kind of a mind picture: here's what happened. Could really just be a summary. but its in pictoral form. Another part of this is the "huh?" I don't get what's happening. So it's creating pictures in your mind and then i guess knowing when you aren't creating pictures in your mind.
The next level seems to be a basic connection, I've seen something like this on tv.
Then there's a connection of really putting yourself in those shoes--i'd be scared if a shark attacked me.
then there's the prediction, here's what I think is going to happen.
So i guess I could put all this into a spreadsheet. Kid's name, types of thinking, ability to fill out form.
