Claire's email reminded me how easy it is to throw up our hands and say, ugh, I don't know. Nothing I'm doing is working. She reminded me that getting kids to read is about constantly pushing, making suggestions, modeling. When Xavier came in without a book again today, I offered him Common's biography. He seems to be reading it, for at least a few minutes. Although the kids want to give up, we just have to keep the big picture and remember that things often don't work in the first, second, fifth try. We just can't give up.
