What am I thinking now?
Well, in some ways I'm more clear and in some ways I'm more confused.
Parts I"m more clear on:
I need a better understanding of what is happening in group work. Sometime next week, I'd like to set up a video camera with mice and record some group conversations. From there, I'd like to code what is happening in the groups. I want to get a sense of what good conversations sound like. Are they asking each other questions? Are they pushing each other's thinking?
My goal is have students learning from each other. But how do you measure when they've learned from each other. Do I do a before and after survey?
The other area that I need to consider is that for my school inquiry, I need to do something around common core and literacy. So, can I tie that in as well?
So, my question would be how do students help each other to gain content understanding and demonstrate that understanding through improved performance tasks?
I know it's a lot to take on.
i'm going to have a conversation with Grace. We will discuss good groupwork. Also, challenges in group work and what structures would help. I think we should also talk about her group.
maybe I could record their group and show it to all of them and have them talk with me about what's happening? I could offer lunch or something for participating? Even recording them talking about the recording could be insightful, right?
