11.5

In looking at mentor responses I see three main area (plus tech. issues, which are slowly getting better)
  • finding students academic levels--they'll say, I think it was too easy last week, then I ramped up this week, might have been above students heads. It is a real challenge to pose problems to students that are right on their level
  • challenging strong students--this goes along with the last one, but is more about just not knowing where to go if I student gets everything.
  • students believe they know more than they do--often student says, i'm getting straight As in math, I understand everything, but actually as soon as they get an application problem, they're thrown off. Can no longer solve for x, can't figure out what x represents, etc.
I'm still a little unclear about what my question is, but I'd like it to be about mentor improvement.
