February mid-month blog post

“I am planning to collect the following data before the next meeting …”

-continuing to watch videos of my focal pairs.

-also thinking a bit about questions. Might write down every single question said by both student and mentor. i think I could do this for each pair for one session by the next meeitng.

“Over the next few weeks, here is what success would look like for each of my focal students …" (these goals or indicators might be different for each student)

-doris and shosh--Doris begins to take more of a lead in the sessions

-Helen and Jaci--Jaci demonstrates more excitement about mentoring (and stays in the program)

-Priya C. and Clarissa-have a session, and Clarissa demonstrates more positivity.

-Pranab and Sam-Pranab stays a bit more focused and less jumping around. Sam demonstrates understanding of a hard topic instead of Pranab having to jump in.

“The most important change, or changes, I have made in my teaching practice as a result of my inquiry is/are …”

-I focused on talking about specific things, like relationship. Clear direct instruction on a specific topic. Next one will be about questions.

"What I need to do before I present my inquiry in May ..."

-Pull together student grades for each trimester, are they improving?

-watch another three sessions for every pair

-find areas where all mentors have improved to showcase

-figure out how to make a graph that shows each mentor's improvement. I think I'm getting there, but I might need specific help from Tomas or someone who's good with Excel.

--on that note, make sure I pull together the observation notes for all four pairs into one sheet so that someone can help me with this.

  1. Hi Dina,
    Hope you are well!
I don't really have any "eye opening"comments for you, but I do have a question. The last time you and I talked about your project, you were thinking of doing a mid-year survey of the students to find out how they think things are going between themselves and their mentors. Did that every happen? We had talked about using the same questions that are used in the survey at the beginning of the year so you can track changes from their points of view!
    That's all...
See you in a couple of weeks!
    Jody
