I think my presentation went okay. I feel like I got a little grilled, but it didn't necessarily push my thinking.
-one thing that has become clear as a finding is that one student often rises as a leader. Can I leverage that at all? Can I have a job of leader whose job it is to keep the conversation going?
-students don't see the point of having conversations. But, when they are excited about their books, they do.
-conversation deepening comprehension. Students aren't able to notice that happening. Doesn't necessarily mean its not happening, they just might not know.
-its clear that a lot of students are ready for new partners and new books. Should we do another book shopping/partner shopping time?n Maybe having a clearer understanding of what makes for a good partnership?
-Tori, I see him with a book. I see him reading, but comprehension still seems low. It's not a just right book for him. Alex isn't a good partner for him.
-clearly more teacher guidance would support the conversation, but how can I be in 14 conversations at once?
-staying in the same place in the book is like a nightmare. Do I just not worry about it? Would the conversations benefit from a bigger question? Should I provide the question? Should pairs write questions? Should there be a nightly journal entry that goes with the book?
Ahh, I feel like I'm making very little progress!
