So book clubs were exciting in the beginning, but a lot of these books are really hard, and without support, they really can't read them. The Cay, Anne Frank, The Seems. They require a lot of background knowledge and vocabulary understanding in order to follow them. Dexter isn't understanding the book at all, although I think if he can get into the action of the book he'll be ok. His letter was just a regurgiation of what I told them about the book, it didn't actually demonstrate what he'd read. I feel so frustrated I don't know what to do. How can I make the book clubs work? Or maybe they don't? Maybe they just need to focus on doing reading strategies with their own books?
